Dy CM stresses on coordinating efforts for flood management

JAMMU, AUGUST 12 – Underscoring the need to have coordinated approach while dealing with flood situation, Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Tara Chand today said that different departments need to work in unison for providing timely and effective relief to the flood affected people.
The Deputy Chief Minister had called an emergency meeting of provincial level administration to take stock of the arrangements being made in view of the flood situation caused due to incessant rains in Jammu province.
Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation Mr. S.C. Sawhney, SSP, Jammu Mr. Anand Jain and other senior officers of Revenue as well as senior engineers of Irrigation and Flood Control attended the meeting.
While reviewing the progress of relief measures taken in Rajiv Nagar and Jawahar Nagar areas of Jammu, the Deputy Chief Minister directed the revenue authorities to assess the damage caused to houses and to arrange eatables for the flood affected families. He directed JMC and District administration to jointly arrange for pumps to dewater the flooded areas.
The meeting was informed that district administration has already started a Langer at Rajiv Nagar for the benefit of flood affected people.
Instructions were also issued for joint assessment of civil work damage by Revenue and UEED authorities.
In order to check any health epidemic, Mr. Tara Chand directed Divisional Commissioner to form special teams for the purpose and asked that the teams should be sent to the affected areas for constant monitoring of the situation.
He directed civil and police administration to remain prepared for any emergency and directed them to arrange tents for the affected people. Directions were also passed to police for keeping extra personnel ready for deputation to the affected sites.
The Deputy Chief Minister directed the flood control department to keep a close vigil on the water level of Tawi and Chenab rivers. He said control room should be set up to coordinate water level of different rivers and constant feedback be got from Doda, Udhampur and other upper reaches.
