Jammu karate champions brought laurels | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, August 12: Achieving another milestone in the field of karate, Abhishek Sharma, Tushar Jandial and Sumit Sharma brought laurels to our state by participating in 6th Commonwealth Karate Championship held at Sydney, Australia from July 30 to July 31, 2011. It was for the first time in the history of J&K state in the field of Karate that the karatekas from our state represented India in an international level of tournament. These players were selected for the event in the trials held at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi in the month of May. They are all black belts from AIKF (All India Karate do Federation) recognized by Government of India & Indian Olympic Association and were trained under the able guidance of their coach Ambedkar Gupta, who is 4th Dan black belt in karate and has recently accompanied the Indian Karate Team as Team Coach in Asian Karate Championship held at Quanzhau, China from July 16 to July 25, 2011. It was for the first time in the history of karate that a Coach from Jammu and Kashmir was selected as a coach in an International Championship. The players were sponsored by Universal Martial Art Academy (regd.). Anil Gupta, Patron of Universal Martial Art Academy, appreciated their achievement and hope that the karatekas of our state will bring more laurels to our state in the field of karate in future also. Aiyaz Lone, President Amateur Karate Do Association Jammu and Kashmir (AKAJK) recognized by J&K State Sports Council and Manoj Mehra, Gen Secretary (AKAJK) also congratulated the players and Ambedkar Gupta for their achievement.
