PDP 'outcry' over Sopore, Surankote gave political jolts to govt | Have BJP and JKNPP abdicated their 'role' as opposition….? | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 12: As the acts of militancy related violence and other related incidents turn already fragile situation of this sensitive state further shaky, the political dimensions and equations also change their equilibrium, with almost reversal roles 'performed' by those in opposition. Barring PDP, the principle opposition party of the state at present is conducting itself as a party truly in opposition by cornering and questioning the government over issues the latter is accountable and answerable. The moot question is whether BJP and J&K Panthers Party have abdicated their responsibility or role as opposition or they are simply supporting the NC led coalition's governance and its policies …? PDP was never silent over the last few months even as peace by and large prevailed in the state in comparison to the previous year's shattered situation due to unrest that continued on account of various reasons cumulatively. It did made its presence on several other issues concerning people, pointing out fallacies in day to day governance of the Congress-NC alliance government. However, Sopore custodial killing early this month changed the whole dynamics of politics once again with separatists camp as well as PDP coming to the forefront, up in the arms against government for this 'blunder' , with their human rights abuse cry getting louder ever. Few days later when Surankote encounter turned out to be fake, it further gave wider and louder platform to PDP to rake up the issue, which the latter did to hilt. The response of PDP was not mere condemnation or criticism for the sake of criticism but it dared government with as bold uttering as that this dispensation has turned entire state into police fiefdom…… that all encounters in this state are fake…….that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has given free hand to Police and Army to eliminate innocent civilians ………both state government and Centre had adopted policy of breaking voices of dissent with guns and violence…etc etc. And surprisingly, the government, particularly NC which normally rebuffs the accusations leveled by PDP without losing time over even small issues, this time remained quiet and slient, with no reaction nor any response to the brazen and to some extent stretched or exaggerated allegations. One understands the reaons behind this silence this time, the blunders being so grave that it left no scope for government to come out with any clarification or justification. But one wonders at the silence of the opposition parties based in Jammu who did not come out with even normal condemnation ritual , normally seen over such happenings. Both BJP as well as Panthers Party, which take on the government over every second issue, sometimes not carrying any weight, have till date chosen to remain completely silent over these two incidents which shook the government badly . Is it that these two parties have decided to speak and react on only specific issues which guarantee them political benefits or they deliberately chose to adopt silence. If so . should this be deciphered that both parties have eneterd into some kind of 'tacit' understanding with the ruling dispensation , especially NC , which has forced it remain in hibernation over such issues which can otherwise give big jolts to the government if the political voices get louder cumulatively. |
