| Range Officer Gulmarg suspended on charges of involvement in timber smuggling | | | Srinagar, Dec 1 The Principle Chief Conservator Forests has placed Range Officer Gulmarg under suspension on charges of involvement in smuggling illicit timber. It has been learnt that on receiving complaints about the mass cutting of green gold by smugglers with the blessings of Range Officer Peer Panchal Division Gulmarg from Tangmarg area, the Principle Chief Conservator forest while taking serious cognizance placed ranger officer munshi Iqbal under suspension. It is in place to mention here that sleuths of State Vigilance Organisation and Forest Protection Force had in a joint operation seized 1000 cubic feet illicit timber from Hanjiwera and Narbal areas of Peer Panchal Forest Division recently. Meanwhile sources revealed to KNS that concerned authorities have sealed two band saw mills and a timber sale depot and recovered a huge quantity of illicit timber recently. The authorities have come to know that smugglers backed by some politician have developed a wide neck work to loot green gold from the area. The illicit timber sold in open market during last four year is costing few crores of rupees as per the existing market rate of timber. |
