4 killed, 21 hurt in road accidents

JAMMU, Aug 13: Three persons were killed after an oil tanker last evening skidded off the national highway at Karole in Ramban, about 160 km from here towards Srinagar, due to slippery road conditions and fell into the mighty Chenab river. In other road mishaps, one person was killed and 22 others were wounded, some of them critically, since last evening.
SP (Ramban) Anil Magotra said an oil tanker last evening skidded off the highway at Karole and fell into Chenab. The ill-fated tanker (JK02Q/8805) was on its way from Leh to Jammu. The SP said though three persons were said to be on board the tanker, only one body had been recovered so far.
He was, however, unsure about the exact number of persons travelling in the vehicle. Quoting inputs received by Ramban police, he said when the tanker started its journey from Leh, there were three persons in it, including the driver. The one, whose body had been fished out by police, was identified as Mohammad Iqbal (26), son of Mohammadu of Handa, Doda. Ramban police station had registered a case in this connection under sections 279 and 304-A of RPC. Dalsangar, son of Sugreen of Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, was killed after the Santro car (JK02H/1190) he was driving skidded off the road at Motor shed, Chenani, in Udhampur and rolled down into a gorge.
Shilpa, daughter of Subash Chander, Gulshan, son of Mohan Lal, Hari Om Sharma, son of Subash Sharma, all residents of Panjoor, Kanhachak, and Shakti Sharma, daughter of Shatrugan of Charki, were injured in a minibus accident and hospitalized.
Rosha Sethi, son of Rajesh Sethi, and Rattan Lal, son of Des Raj, both residents of Kachi Chawni, were injured after their car (JK02F/5588) was hit by a bus near Batra hospital at Sidhra. Both of them were admitted to the GMC hospital.
Cop Mohammad Iqbal, Samriti of Muthi, Jyoti Devi, wife of Kuldeep Raj of Kathua, Sonu, son of Shankar of Nagrota, Dinesh Gupta, son of Sudershan Gupta of Roop Nagar, Prince Sahni, son of Sanjay Sahni of Rehari, Payal Chopra, daughter of Chaman Lal Chopra of Muthi, Geeta Devi, wife of Ashok Kumar of Gho Manasan, Koushalya, wife of Puran Chand of Gho Manasan, Mohammad Sharief, son of Mohammad Hussain of Sidhra, Soni, daughter of Sansar Chand of Akhnoor, Tania, daughter of Joginder Prakash of BSF Colony, Paloura, Goga Ram of Purkhoo, his wife Pushpa Devi, and Ritesh, son of Bodh Raj of Nanke Chak, Samba, were injured in other incidents.
All of them were hospitalized.
