Come forward to resolve Kashmir issue: Vohra to separatists | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Aug 14: Expressing hope that India-Pakistan talks will yield positive results, Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra today said it was time for the separatists to come forward for talks for peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue. "Insofar as issues relating to the internal dimension are concerned, the time has come for all those who hold contrary convictions to step forward for talks and discussions to pave the way for a peaceful resolution," Vohra said in his Independence Day eve message. He expressed hope that New Delhi's ongoing initiatives to discuss with Islamabad the entire range of issues between the two countries would lead to a positive outcome in the course of time. Governor said the liberal democratic framework of the country provides ample space for the expression of contrary and divergent views without there being any need for resorting to strikes and agitations which cause severe losses on so many fronts. "The growth and development of Jammu and Kashmir has been affected by the difficult situations which have been faced in the past years and to make up for the lost opportunities, the political leadership of the State and the people shall need to work very hard," he said. Governor said the disturbances in the preceding three summers contributed to enormous human and economic losses and irreparable disruption of the educational schedules. Referring to the recently concluded Panchayat elections, the Governor observed that the massive participation of the people in these polls has yet again demonstrated that the people of the state have a deep commitment to democracy. He added that the projected elections to the Urban Local Bodies, alongside the emergence and empowerment of Panchayati Raj Institutions, will lead to the establishment of grass root democracy and boost the entire development process in the State. Governor referred to the just concluded annual Shri Amarnathji Yatra and said that over 6.35 lakh pilgrims undertook the pilgrimage this year, which is the highest ever number. He said that the credit for the satisfactory arrangements for the conduct of the Yatra goes to the people of the Valley, for the warmth and care with which they provided services to pilgrims from distant parts of the country. He thanked the State Government, Security Forces, people and all the stakeholders for the peaceful conduct of this year’s Yatra. Governor wished Omar Abdullah, the young Chief Minister of J&K, and all members of his Council of Ministers, high success in their continuing endeavours to achieve the speedy development of the State. He greeted people of the state on this joyous occasion and wished all of them a bright and happy future. |
