Govt keen to promote horticulture, floriculture in potential areas | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Aug 14: – The Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma today said that the government was keen to promote horticulture and floriculture in the potential areas of the state by offering attractive incentives and technical knowhow to the farmers, The Minister said this while addressing series of public meetings during his extensive tour to of Akhnoor Tehisl, here today. During the tour the minister also visited Emergency Hospital at Chowki – Choura and inspected the Medicare facilities being provided to the patients at the health institution. The Minister called upon the farmers to adopt the high cash crops like fruit and flower growing to improve their economic conditions. He gave a detailed resume of the incentives and innovations techniques being provided to the farmers willing to adopt this stream of cultivation under schemes like Horticulture and Floriculture Technology Mission. Referring to some success stories, he said there are areas where people have switched over to the flower and fruit growing and increased theper kanal income to two to three times. The Minister said that Jammu division has lagged behind in tapping the horticulture potential and the government is making every effort to encourage this sector in the region. Listing the measures taken by the government to upgrade health service delivery system, he said all district and sub district hospitals have been provided with the state of art diagnostic facilities which have provided great reload to the people. He said that focused attention is being laid to achieve desired results in the implementation of National Rural Health Mission. He sought the cooperation of the people for maintaining discipline keeping health institutions clean, besides exposing those who resort to illegal practices like sex determination and selling spurious drugs. The Minister particularly laid stress on saving the girl child in wake of the falling sex ratio in the state. He said the government has decided o act tough against those who provide facilities of sex determination and the parents who opt for feotocide.
