Unprecedented rush at Katra, over 60,000 converge at base camp | Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims set one more record | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 14 : For the first time , perhaps in the history of this holy pilgrimage, an unprecedented number of Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims have converged in the township of Katra, at present estimated to be over 60,000 at the base camp, waiting for their turn to start their journey to have darshan in the holy cave. The rush of pilgrims in Katra is stated to be so intense that there is no space left on roads where thousands of them have converged, all hotels and lodges already being packed. Even as Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage has been registering ever increasing inflow of the pilgrims , particularly around Navratra festivals, but this time, it has perhaps broken all records as the number of pilgrims reaching at Katra for the last couple of days is far more higher than previously recorded. Though there is no exact figure to suggest the crowd camping at Katra, officials as well as the local people are describing the scenario as unprecedented , some of them even putting the figure at not less than one lakh. The unprecedented number of the pilgrims at one point of time is apparently giving a tough time to the Police as well as the security agencies , the period being sensitive on account of the Independence Day tomorrow. The huge crowd and swarming movement of people is giving tough time to the security agencies also on the account that the Shrine is already under threat from militants .
