Revolt brewing in Cong ranks over New Delhi's continued experimentation in J&K | Rotational Chief Minister issue still alive Parray resigns, many others to follow | | Syed Junaid Hashmi EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 14: Congress leaders and workers across Jammu and Kashmir have begun feeling suffocated and some have even left the party owing to New Delhi's apparent refusal to accept their demand for rotational Chief Minister. Sources said that a revolt is brewing in the ranks of congress and by December 2011, political scenario of state is likely to witness a major turnaround. If congress leadership at the centre does not heed to demand of local workers, sources said that New Delhi may be forced to constitute another team of interlocutors for its own party unit in J&K. They said that despite factionalism, congress workers are convinced that internal friction would not be a problem if New Delhi accepts their demand. If congress does not get its own Chief Minister for the next three years, its base is likely to get eroded across Jammu region where it has significant presence, said the sources. They were critical of congress leadership's continued experimental approach in Jammu and Kashmir. Congress leaders do not hesitate in saying that coalition government had miserably failed to accommodate its workers. "Dozens of Congress workers come to my office daily and when I call some officer to redress their grievances, they don't pay any heed. Similar is the situation with other Congress leaders," said a senior congress leader Muzaffar Parray who recently resigned from the primary membership of the party. He further alleged that Congress workers are completely being neglected as nobody in the administration is listening to them. Parry disclosed that party high command is being misled over the functioning of government. They said that Chief Minister never attends meetings of coalition coordination committee though JKPCC president Prof. Saifuddin Soz being chairman of the committee is always punctual. Leaders while emphasizing on the need for allowing congress to lead the coalition said that situation has deteriorated to such an extent that views of the Congress are not taken into account before the government makes any decision public. They said that NC is making the government's decision making process a hostage to politics. They added that decisions are taken on the basis of merit and suitability. This explicitly shows National Conference (NC) is non-serious towards accommodating congress. Leaders said that despite being aware of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's political and administrative immaturity, Congress leadership is no mood to replace him with a person from their own party. "Omar is New Delhi's experiment in Jammu and Kashmir. If he fails, it would have an impact on the prospects of Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi taking over as Prime Minister of the country in the near future," said a senior congress leader from New Delhi. He further said "Omar represents youth and New Delhi wants to continue with him for this reason." He added "They have given the administrative keys of Jammu and Kashmir to Home Minister who has further sublet the job to Home Secretary and Governor of the state." When New Delhi is running J&K administration on its own and taking all major decisions, they find no need of changing the Chief Minister, maintained the leader. |
