Jammu police busts Hawala racket, Rs. 4.83 lakh recovered | Terror money being used to fund activities of LeT Delhi police also begins manhunt | | SUMIT SHARMA EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 15: Jammu and Kashmir Police today busted a Hawala racket which was being used as a route to fund terror activities of various modules of Pakistan based terror organization Lashkar-e-Taiba active across the state. Seeking anonymity, a senior police officer said that the inputs about this Hawala racket were received months received and the same was confirmed by a notorious criminal and smuggler Sarfu during interrogation. "The interrogation of the arrested inter-border smuggler , who belonged to Pargwal sector of sub-district Akhnoor , revealed that he was involved in running a Hawala racket meant to fund LeT in the state," said the officer. He further said that Sarfu during questioning revealed that he took the consignment of heroine from Pakistan and sold the same to Delhi based smugglers. The amount he collected in place of heroine was again smuggled to Pakistan. In the entire operation, sources said that the smuggler confirmed of having received the commission. The Indian currency smuggled to Pakistan was then used by LeT outfit to conduct its subversive activities. On the disclosure of Sarfu, police conducted a series of raids in his Miran Sahib based relatives and recovered a whooping amount Rs 4.83 lakh. This, according to sources is in addition to Rs1.10 lakh recovered earlier. Though investigation of the case is on and detailed questioning of suspects is in progress in police station Miran Sahib and Bishnah till late hours, sources revealed that Delhi police has started conducting raids after they received information from Jammu and Kashmir police. In the racket, police has arrested four persons so far namely Sarfu , his sister Praksho of Miran Sahib, Sanju son of Sarfu and Parshotam son of Praksho. Worthwhile to mention here that the Hawala racket came to limelight when Special Operation Group (SOG) arrested two persons including a street vendor for allegedly bringing fake currency of face value over Rs 1.10 lakh to border area of Miran Sahib, a couple of weeks ago. Later, however, the same currency turned out to be original and a case of Hawala racket surfaced. Informed sources said, Parshotam Lal, a street vendor, was arrested from Kheer Pind, Miran Sahib, based on information divulged by one of his associates, Sanju, whom police arrested from village Khod in the early hours of July 25. Later police arrested father of Sanju identified as Sarfu. Sources said that earlier police got information that father-son duo was involved in the business of circulating counterfeit currency in Jammu district and based on the inputs a raid was conducted at the residence of Sanju where he was arrested. During interrogation Sanju told police that he and his father had hidden the consignment in the residence of his cousin at Miran Sahib and accordingly, a raid was conducted to arrest his cousin brother Parshotam. From the residence of Parshotam, police recovered the amount of Rs 1.10 lakh in a bag that was confined beneath the bed. Investigation of the case is in progress and more revelations and arrests likely, sources disclosed.
