| Protests erupt in Jammu over Anna’s arrest | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 16: Protests erupted in this winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir Tuesday against the detention of civil society activist Anna Hazare in New Delhi. As news of the detention spread, small groups came out of their homes in support of the Gandhian, whose proposed fast in support of a strong Lokpal Bill had been banned by Delhi Police. Some groups including Panun Kashmir and SOS, an organization of people from PoK who became refugees in 1947, staged a protest near the Press Club. Spontaneous demonstrations were also reported from Satwari locality, Old City areas and several other places Very soon, the protests picked up across Jammu city. Some protesters held placards that read: "We support Anna Hazare!" "We are with Anna Hazare and his campaign against corruption," said B.S. Salathia, president of the Jammu Bar Association, which suspended its work for the day. The protesters raised slogans against the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government and Delhi Police. Salathia added: "Lawyers in Jammu will continue to hold protests against corruption because corruption is ruining our nation." Hazare and his associates, including activists Arvind Kejriwal and Kiran Bedi, were detained early Tuesday before they could begin their hunger strike for a strong anti-corruption bill. Nirbhao Nirvair Organisation (NNO) condemned the arrest of Anna Hazary by the UPA government, here today. Addressing the gathering NNO president S Harjeet Singh said that that since the UPA government has not provide the spare to the team of the Anna Hazary for his peaceful protest but the UPA government must not be consider it that they have crushed the said movement. Speaking on the occasion NNO general secretary S Ramneek Singh Sasan said that the central government must be given full support to the strong Lok Pal Bill for which Anna Hazary is fighting sincerely and without any personal intension. He further said that the every citizen of the India are facing a lot of difficulties due to the corruption in every corner of the government especially in the regime of present government. Among those who were present on the occasion included Pardeep Kumar, Kuldeep Singh, Vishal Sharma, S Gurdyal Singh, Amit Kumar, S Mohidner Singh, and Gurdeep Singh beside others. Jammu West Assembly Movement (JWAM) strongly condemned the arrest of Anna Hajarey and his team members, here today Addressing the media persons JWAM president Sunil Dimple he said that this is totally unconstitutional and the “murder of the democracy” in the “largest calming democratic country” in the world. He threatened that we will go ahead with the Janandolan and war against the corruption and for the Jan Lok pal bill in the state. Dimple further said that the UPA government led by Dr Manmohan Singh has badly disappointed the people of the country by arresting Anna Hajare. He urged the chief minister Omar Abdullah to take up matter with Prime Minister and represent the people of the state for the strong Jan Lok Pal Bill as the Jammu and Kashmir is on the second number in the corruption. Dimple also sat on the dharna along with the members of Bar Association on the Janipur high court. He appealed to people to get united and warned that we will intensify the agitation against the corruption. Dimple appealed and said Anna Hazare and his team of the civil society to go ahead with the mission and we are with you. He disclosed that the movement has decided for the mass “Jan Andolan” in the state against the rising corruption in the country along with the people of the nation and in support of the campaign against the corruption started by the Anna Hazare and the members of the civil society. Sunil Dimple further appealed the prime minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh and the chief minister Omar Abdullah to immediately reshuffle their corrupt cabinet colleagues and throw out the corrupt ministers out of the cabinet.
