Dy CM inspects protection works along river Chenab | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 16: Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand today visited areas of Khour Block and inspected the protection works in the villages along the river Chenab. The restoration work was taken up on war footing at affected villages which suffered land erosion at some places due to increase in the river water level in the backdrop of incessant rains during the past week. Deputy Chief Minister enquired about the existing water level in the Chenab River about which he was told that there was abrupt rise in the level due to incessant rainfall last week causing land erosion at some palces. The Flood Control functionaries however said that with the improvement in weather, the level of water has started receding. Deputy Chief Minister was told that minor damage to the protection band which caused erosion of portion of land at some places is being restored at war footing. Deputy Chief Minister along with the high level team of officers visited the villages where the flood water has caused some damage and asked the concerned functionaries to make estimate for raising retention wall to save further erosion to the damaged land. Later, Deputy CM along with the team of officers also inspected the site for the construction of proposed Degree College and ITI College for the Khour block. The Deputy CM said that the place is centrally located and have accessibility for all sides of the block. He asked the administration to initiate process for the acquiring of the land. Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Sanjeev Verma, SSP Jammu Anand Jain, senior functionaries of Irrigation and Flood Control, besides other representatives of line departments also accompanied the Deputy Chief Minister.
