Hindu shrines in Valley becoming centre of attraction for pilgrims | Navdal shrine opened for pilgrims after over two decades of turmoil | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Aug 17; With peaceful Summer in Valley this year after over two decades of turmoil and record number of over 6.30 lakh pilgrims visiting holy Amarnath cave for the first time in its history, the rush of Hindu pilgrims to local shrines in Valley has also increased for the first time this year. According to reports hundreds of pilgrims visited Navdal shrine of Lord Shiva in Tral tehsil of Central Kashmir district of Pulwama today to perform pooja archana of Lord Shiva. Not only the Kashmiri Pandits residing in Valley but a large number of the me mbers of the community reached Kashmir Valley yesterday to take part in Navdal yatra. The increasing rush to the Hindu pilgrimages during this Summer has been due to improvement in ground situation in Kashmir is the general opinion of members of majority community. Undeterred with the recent threatening letters to members of minority Sikhs in some Handwara villages by some miscreants who asked them to vacate the Valley, the number of Hindu pilgrims visiting their religious places in Valley is increasing now day by day. This shows that the letters written to the minority Sikhs had no impact on displaced Pandits who after ignoring such warnings of miscreants are on their way to Valley to bridge the gulf created between two communities due to the turmoil and anti Pandit tirade launched by militants over two decades back. Contrary to the situation in past the local Muslims are openly welcoming their Pandit brethern visiting the Hindu shrines in Valley. This has led to a confidence building between the majority and minority community. The improvement in Valley situation has given such positive signals that many migrants returned to their native villages and started constructing their houses. Though this number is as negligible at present but if this trend continues many more Pandit families will likely return especially those from villages. Navdal is an ancient hindu shrine and as per the hindu mythology the Amarnath Yatra was incomplete if one failed to pay his obeisance at this shrine after return from darshana of ice Shivlingam in amaranth cave. Prior to militancy in Valley the Hindu pilgrims of Kashmir used to visit Navdal after returning from holy Amarnath cave. But his shrine went into oblivion during the two decade long militancy and it was only after the slight improvement in Valley situation that Hindu devotees decided to have pilgrimage of this holy shrine this year, said Dr Ramesh one of the organizers of this year’s yatra from Jammu to holy shrine. Not only Navdal but a large number of Hindu pilgrims for the first time visited Pracheen Amarnath shrine in tehiwara, bijebehara in South Kashmir district of Anantnag on the occasion of Sawan purnima. Tejiwara is the ancient shrine of Swami Amarnath where pilgrims used to visit when the route to holy cave of Amarnath was lost during the medieval period. Besides large number of pilgrims this year also visited Kapal Mochans Shrine in Batpora Shopian in South Kashmir on the occasion of Sawan Bah this year. In addition to this the rush of Hindu pilgrims visiting other religious places including Tulmulla, Kheerbhawani, Tirath Raj Martand, Mattan, khir bhwani shriens of Manzgam, Lokripora and Tripursundri of Khanbarnan was also on increase.
