Soz meets Civil Aviation Minister | Urges resumption of Srinagar-Dubai flight | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 17: President, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee and Rajya Sabha member Prof Saifuddin Soz has urged the Union Minister for Civil Aviation to resume Srinagar-Dubai flight and extend it to Jeddah.
In a press statement issued here today, Prof Soz said, “In response to a written answer to my question in the Rajya Sabha to Minister for Civil Aviation Vayalar Ravi that the Air India had no plan to resume the flight on Srinagar-Dubai Sector due to the fact that the same was not economically viable, I raised the some propositions with the Minister during my meeting with him recently.
During the meeting it was explained to the Minister that the Srinagar-Dubai flight had been started with much fan-fare four years ago and suspension of the flight had dismayed people of Kashmir.
Soz suggested to the Minister that the flight can be a lucrative proposition for Air-India if Srinagar-Dubai flight is extended to Jeddah as a sizable number of people from Kashmir will take the route for Umrah. He urged the Minister to consider it on priority.
He explained to the Minister that after the installation of ILS (Instrumental Landing System) at Srinagar airport, it was now possible to operate flights in the evening also. Soz explained further that the general public and the trading community as also tourists would benefit quite a lot if the flights were organized in the evenings too.
The third issue that was raised with the Minister related to take-over of Centaur Lake-View hotel by the Govt. of Jammu & Kashmir.
Explaining the background to the Minister, Soz emphasized that since privatization of the complex was opposed by us and it was decided to handover the infrastructure and management of the same to Jammu & Kashmir Govt, the regularization of employees, whose fate has been hanging fire for seventeen years, must precede the transfer of the complex to the State Government.
He told the Minister that these employees have been suffering great hardships and the system has been absolutely callous towards them.
The Minister has assured Soz that he would look into these issues personally and a solution would be found.
