Pak crisis is its own making | | | Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who heads hardliners among the separatists and who is a votary of Kashmir's incorporation with Pakistan, has confessed that Pakistan was going through the worst phase of its history.Though he has not dilated on the nature and contours of the problems Pakistan was facing,Geelani did say that Pakistan had to guard against internal and external threats. Not that Geelani was unaware of the nature of the internal problems that had plagued people in Pakistan he did not want to give vent to his feelings on those issues. It is because he is aware of the problems Pakistan was facing that he has suggested to people and the ruling class to rise above all differences to protect their nation. And it is clear when Geelani talks about problems in Pakistan he may have in his mind the ugly scene of severe sectarian clashes in which several hundred people lose their lives every year.He may have in his mind the sway the Pakistani Army and the ISI enjoy over the political leaders, including the ruling elite. He may have in his mind the activities of various terrorist outfits that have carried out series deadly strikes against vital Government and security installations and against the security forces. Well when Geelani talks about Pakistan's need for guarding itself against external and internal threats he seems to be either ill infomed or prefers to feign ignorance.Right from its birth Pakistan has faced never any external threat and it had been plagued by series of internal threats in the shape of sectarian clashes, communal riots, terrorist violence, regional conflict and repeated Army coups. If Geelani claims that Pakistan had to fight four wars against India he needs to be reminded and corrected that these wars were thrust on India.India had never fired its first shot against Pakistan whether it was in 1947,1965,1971 and the Kargil conflict of 1999.The 1947 armed conflict was the result of Pakistan sponsored tribal invasion on Jammu and Kashmir. The 1965 war was the outcome of Pakistani Armymen having infiltrated in civies in Kashmir and the 1971 war followed when Pakistan opened its front in the western sector when its troops were finding it difficult to resist the onslaught of the rebels in the erstwhile East Pakistan. The 1999 Kargil conflict took place when Pakist ani troops occupied mountain heights which were under India's possession. If Pakistan is faced with the worst ever situation in its history it is the result of its creation.Pakistan nurtured terrorists.Pakistan set up camps for providing arms training to the youth, including those who had crossed over to Pakistan and occupied Kashmir from the valley.Pakistan provided moral and material support to the Afghan Mujahideens.later these very Mujahideens received material support from Pakistan even when they joined the Talibans and the Al Qaeda. For over a decade Pakistan has been aiding and assisting terrorist like Osama bin Laden.Pakistan Army and the ISI engineered and facilitated infiltration of Pakistan and Afghan guerrillas into Jammu and Kashmir.Assistance was given to foreign mercenaries from Sudan,Chechnya,Afghanistan and other muslim countries to enter into Jammu and Kashmir for fighting against Indian security forces and people supporting mainstream politicians. And if Pakistan is faced with any threat it is from the terrorists Islamabad and its agencies had cultivated and patronised. If Geelani wants to wish well for Pakistan he should tell Islamabad to abandon its anti-India policies and initiate multidimensional operations against terrorists of various hues.
