Dy CM recalls sacrifices of freedom fighters, calls for working together for a better tomorrow

JAMMU, AUGUST 17 – Extending Independence Day greetings to the people of the state, Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Tara Chand has said the day reminds us of the sacrifices made by great freedom movement leaders who made supreme sacrifices so that coming generations can breathe in a free atmosphere.
“On this day we must pledge to join hands for working together in realizing the dream of our towering leaders to make the country a truly great Nation,” he added.
The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking as chief guest at a function organized by Department of Information and Public relation to mark the Independence Day celebration here Tuesday evening at Police auditorium,.
The cultural extravaganza was a part of the Independence Day celebration functions organized by the department all over the state.
The scintillating cultural program showcased composite cultural heritage of the State and left the audience spell bound.
Inspector-General of Police, Jammu Mr. Dilbagh Singh, Inspector General of Police, Armed Mr. A.K. Chowdhary, Joint-Director, Information Jammu Mr. Soujnya Kumar Sharma, Vice- President, Gandhi Global Family Mr. S.P. Verma; besides officers and staff of information department, prominent citizens, media personalities and people from all walks of life attended the function.
Lauding multi-faceted role played by the Information department, the Deputy Chief Minister said that besides giving press coverage to VIPs the department is engaged in maintaining public relations, organizing debates, mushiaras, and cultural events. Such events go a long way in promoting rich cultural heritage of the state and give a platform to the budding talent, he added.
Mr. Tara Chand said that in 65 years of independence, the country has achieved a lot and made a mark in the world arena in science, information technology, economy and other fields, adding that, we must not get contented with this, as yet a lot has to be achieved.
Mr. Soujnya Sharma in his welcome address gave a brief resume of various activities the department is undertaking in the field of public relations as well as promoting talented youth. He said functionaries of the department are doing their best at different levels of operations in disseminating information regarding programs and policies of the government by organizing film shows, road shows, besides conducting seminars, debates and cultural events.
