Govt contemplates to introduce professional audit in horti deptt : Sham | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar August 17:- Encouraged by the unprecedented results after introduction of professional audit in the health department, the Government is contemplating to put in place the same mechanism in Horticulture (Planning & Marketing) Department to ensure efficiency and accountability of the organization. This was revealed by the Minister for Health, Horticulture & Floriculture, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma while reviewing the functioning of the Horticulture (Planning & Marketing) Department and interacting with the fruit growers of Valley, here today. Maintaining that horticulture industry is the mainstay of Jammu and Kashmir’s, the Minister said that all out efforts will be made to make this industry to grow further. He directed senior officers and area marketing officers posted in different States to gear up their efforts to promote the State horticulture produce in the different parts of the country. He further asked area marketing officers to formulate a well-knit programme about the despatches to different destinations to meet out the supply as per the demands before the beginning of apple crop season. He stressed on close coordination between government agencies and traders for achieving the targets and maintained every officer will be made accountable and those failing in achieving the targets will face action. Laying stress on the rationalization of supply strictly as per the demand, the Minister directed for a special focus on the nearby States like, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh. He said our main competitor is Himachal Pradesh and we have to enhance our activities in its gateway Chandigarh. He asked the concerned officers to gather the necessary feedback and plug the gaps wherever required and directed them to encourage the traders of different states to visit Jammu and Kashmir to make direct purchase from the local fruit markets so that the growers get genuine rates of their products. Responding to the demands of the officers, the Minister said that all the offices of area marketing officers will be equipped with computers and latest infrastructure. He issued instructions to the Director Planning & Marketing to take immediate measures in this direction. He also directed the area marketing officers to protect the government assets in different states.
