Support for Anna grows in Jammu region | More join protests, dharnas | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 17: It was again a day of protests across Jammu region opposing the arrest of Gandhian and anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare as various political, social and student organisations held rallies in different parts of the province. State Unit of BJP organized district level programmes of different modes under the ongoing nation-wide crusade against corruption, which has engulfed the entire country. This was disclosed by BJP State Spokesperson Dr. Nirmal Kamal while releasing the details of the High Command’s directives regarding the scheduled programmes. Dr. Nirmal Kamal said that under the slogan “Brashtachar Mitao, Loktantra Bachao” each and every district unit of BJP throughout the country will organize sit in protests, Silent march, Conch blowing (shank naad) and Thali naad against the dictatorial and fascist tendencies of the Centre government perpetuating corruption and suppressing the patriotic voices of the nation. Emphasizing BJP’s exemplary role in mobilizing public opinion on issues of 2G spectrum, Commonwealth Games scandal, Adarsh Society and various other scandals, she strongly condemned UPA government’s very undemocratic method to shun the voice of people whenever they protested and particularly UPA government’s efforts to suppress strong Jan Lok Pal. Strongly opposing unwarranted, undemocratic method to arrest Anna Hazare and his team, who were to protest in peaceful manner, she further disclosed that the party’s National President has given guidelines to the state unit to organize suitable programmes and the same are being carried out across the state. Dr. Nirmal Kamal further said that like other districts, the Jammu Mahanagar unit of BJP under its president Rajesh Gupta, took out a massive “Torch Rally” from party headquarters and after passing through main bazaars of the city, culminated at city chowk, where copies of the UPA’s Lok Pal Bill were burnt. Raising slogans against the government, people blocked vehicular traffic at various places on Jammu-Pathankote national highway. The road blocks caused inconvenience to commuters and hundreds of Vaishnodevi pilgrims. Students of GGM Science College Jammu and SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu held protest demonstration against the detention of Anna Hazare. Students of GGM Science College gathered at the Shaheedi Sthal and raised slogans against centre government. The protest was led by Shiv Dev Singh. Students raised slogans “Lok Pal Bill Lao” and “Bhrashtachar Mitao.” Supporting Hazare, student community resolved to extend all cooperation to him and the civil society. Students of SPMR College of Commerce also held a massive protest demonstration against Centre and Delhi government. The protest was led by Ishan Choudhary and Lovekesh Gondi. Partap Singh Jamwal (Provincial President NPSU) strongly condemned the Delhi police for its undemocratic action on Anna on the directives of Congress led UPA government. A candle light procession was taken out in Samba by NPSU leaders in support of Anna and the Civil Society of India which has launched a nation-wide crusade against corruption and black money. NPSU leader present in this procession Kusam Khajuria, Sunny Singh and Vikas Sambyal. The National Secular Forum (NSF) has also supported the crusade of social activist Anna Hazare against corruption. This morning the activists of NSF assembled at Jammu University under the leadership of University Chairman Ravi Choudhary and District Chairman Surjit Choudhary. They raised slogans "We support Anna Hazare!" "We are with Anna Hazare and his campaign against Corruption,” and bureaucrats who are manipulating the Lokpal Bill for their own sake. Residents and shopkeepers of Talab Tillo today held massive mass protest demonstration against the ill treatment meted out by the Central Government to Anna Hazare and his team members of civil society. Hundreds of youth, boys and girls, housewives and aged people came out on the streets, holding banners and placards demanding the govt to allow the Gandhian Anna Hazare and his supporters to hold peaceful protest demonstration against corruption rampant in the administration, public life, political leaders, with scams involving crores of rupees tumbling out of the cupboards of ministers and other influential politicians, govt officers, judiciary and the members of parliament and state legislatures. They demanded enacting of a strong “Janta Lok Pal Bill” as proposed by Anna Hazare and his team. Forum for Democratic Rights, Jammu and Kashmir, had condemned the undemocratic arrest of Anna Hazare and maintained that there is no law in the country to stop anyone from protesting. A meeting of the Forum members was held under the Chairmanship of its President, Prof Zahoor-u-Din. He supported the fight against corruption and in support of a Lok Pal Bill in which citizens have a stake and expresses its anguish against rising corruption and the government inability to tackle it. However, the Forum does not agree with the methodologies of Anna Hazare and his supporters. But, the FDR opined that every individual or a group enjoys a democratic right to freedom of expression and to protest peacefully against any issue. Expressing concern over the government move, the FDR has maintains that governments should protect the rights of the people to express themselves and to protest even if there is a difference of opinion. Comrades of Jammu Province Bank Employees Federation & Jammu Province Bank Officers Federation, affiliated units AIBEA & AIBOA assembled in front of Punjab National Bank Shalamar Road Jammu and staged a powerful protest against the undemocratic and unconstitutional attitude of Government of India viz - a - viz arrest of social activist Anna Hazare and his team of civil society. The Speakers strongly condemned the action taken by the government headed and demanded for a Strong Lok Pal Bill so that the corrupt persons at the helm of affairs be brought to book. Supporting the cause undertaken by Anna Hajare and his team, Old Hospital Road Traders Association and other social organizations organized a peaceful march led by BJP state secretary and president of association Yudhvir Sethi and General Secretary Joginder Mahajan. Speaking on the occasion, Yudhvir Sethi said it’s a democratic right of every citizen to raise the voice against corruption. Tax Bar Association Jammu today held a meeting under the chairmanship of its President Advocate V K Grover and appreciated the national cause taken up by renowned and respected Gandhian Anna Hazare. The association also expressed anguish over Anna’s uncalled for, undemocratic and unconstitutional arrest with the sole aim of stopping him from executing his legal right of leading a non-violent and peaceful struggle against corruption which has not only eaten up moral national character but has led to inflation, unemployment and international disrepute to India. JPPF in its meeting chaired by Inderjeet Khajuria extended its full support to Anna Hazare for his Gandhian movement in a peaceful manner against the tirade of corruption which has eroded the roots of democracy in India. JPPF appealed to one and all to join this movement which is termed as second war of Independence. It advised the Government of India to cooperate in the movement of Anna Hazare rather than opposing and discouraging it. People in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch too joined the anti-corruption crusade of Anna Hazare by organising protest demonstrations against the Congress-led UPA government. National Forum for Peace and Human Rights, a social organization in Rajouri also protested against the attitude of the UPA government towards Hazare. Vivek Gupta, Chairman of the organization said that the central government is insensitive towards the demands of Hazare who is supported by entire country. Leh people also come out in support of Hazare as a day long Dharna was organised under the leadership of Pintu Norboo, a Civil Society Leader. People from different religious and political organizations , civil societies and NGOs participated in the day long Dharna. While addressing the public the former Member of Parliament from Ladakh Thupstan Chhewang said that it is our responsibility to support Anna who without having any political and any other interest is struggling against corruption.
