JK is most corrupt state, Srinagar 3rd dirtiest city! | In Omar's golden era | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 17: An advertisement issued by the Information Department on Independence Day reminds one of a joke cracked by a renowned broadcaster of the state a few decades ago. The broadcaster once candidly admitted that Radio Kashmir had been feeding lies to the people ever since it was installed. "Before the news reader starts reading news, he says `this is Radio Kashmir Srinagar'. This is the only truth spoken from the station. What follows are lies", he said. The above mentioned advertisement described Omar Abdullah's regime as a golden period of state's development. Good God! Radio Kashmir has started telling the truth but the Information Department, it seems will take some time to call a spade a spade. The truth about National Conference led coalition government's developmental activities came to fore in June when union Home Minister, P Chidambaram visited the summer capital. He took the administration for a `ride' around old city. And during his `joyride' around the old city he sought reasons for dilapidated roads and drains. He was told that no developmental work could be undertaken last year due to unrest. However, no reasons were given for not undertaking the works during the calm that prevailed this year. Curiously it was during the current regime that the state `won' the `honour' of the most corrupt state in India. Srinagar which according to Omar is the face of Jammu Kashmir was declared the third dirtiest city of the country. Veteran Congress man, ML Fotedar was in Srinagar in the first week of July. Notwithstanding his affiliation with the Congress party which happens to be the coalition partner, he rated Mufti Muhammad Sayed as the best Chief Minister state has ever had. A poor man from Lachmanpora, Batmaloo who lost his daughter during the last year's agitation Omar' regime, according to Ali Muhammad said Omar's regime has been an era of broken bones and shattered window panes. Pertinent to mention 120 persons, mostly school going children got killed last year. "If this is development, the people of Jammu Kashmir do not need it", he said. |
