LC panel for regular traffic checking to avoid mishaps | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, AUGUST 18:- Departmental Related Committee (DRC) of Legislative Council on Thursday called for regular traffic checking on overloading, fitness, life of vehicles etc. It also called for fostering close coordination with R & B, BECON, transport, traffic and police departments. The Committee headed by MLC Syeed Asgar Ali and Members M. Y. Taing, Narboo Galchain and Syeed Rafiq Ahmad Shah discussed in detail the functioning and performance of Motor Vehicles Department, SRTC and other sister wings of the Transport department. It took serious notice on frequent road mishaps especially in hilly areas of the State including Udhumpur, Kishtwar and Doda districts. The Committee stressed on enforcing rules and regulations strictly while issuing licenses especially for commercial purposes. It also asked the concerned not to compromise in this pursuit for any lacuna. Commissioner/Secretary, CA &PD and Transport Predeep Gupta and Transport Commissioner, Dr. Sayeed Fazullah gave brief about the functioning and progress of various organization of the transport department especially SRTC, Motor Vehicle department and SMG. Transport Commissioner said that an amount of Rs.170 crore has been realized revenue by the department during the current fiscal so far. Among others, Secretary Legislative Council Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Officer on Special Duty Shamim Ahmad Laharwal, Regional Transport Officer, Kashmir and other concerned officers of SMG, SRTC, MVD and Council Secretariat attended the meeting.
