SKUAST-J inaugurates University Farm | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Aug 18: Chancellor, SKUAST-J today inaugurated the recently developed 33 hectares University Farm and dedicated it to the University for Research Purposes. Mishra said that he is optimistic that agriculture, horticulture, floriculture alongwith other allied sectors like animal husbandry, fishery, poultry will change the scenario of farming community in the J&K State. He added in order to promote the knowledge of agriculture, livestock sector, enhancement of farm income and productivity on sustainability basis, the state of art facilities developed at this campus will be helpful to enrich farmers life & livelihood and will provide alternative means of sustenance and generate the employment and would improve the socio-economic status of the farming community. He said that Jammu division is bestowed with various agro-climatic conditions & zones which provide ample opportunity for the scientists to come up with the area specific recommendations for adoption by the farmers. He also highlighted the technological recommendations of the University and discussed the future road map of the University. This part of the University farm falling within the village Shahzadpur Gujran measuring 33 hectares was acquired by the administration of the University with the help of Revenue Department in the month of March 2011. The farm was planned and developed under Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi sponsored scheme “Modernization of Agricultural University Farms”. In the said Farm research trials of field crops by the various Divisions of University shall be undertaken which shall benefit the Farming Community of the region. The function was attended by the Directors, Officers of the University, Deans and HoDs of Faculty of Agriculture, SKUAST-J.
