| Govt orders high level probe to unearth bungling in JU | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Aug 18: The National Secular Forum (NSF) today expressed gratitude to the Governor and the Chief Minister for initiating high level probe to look into the cases of misappropriation and irregularities that took place in Jammu University during the last two years. Addressing a press conference, NSF president Vikas Sharma disclosed that two year long agitation of NSF against the corruption in JU has yielded fruits as the State Government has initiated the high level probe to unearth the same. He termed it as a victory of entire student community, particularly activists of NSF who displayed courage and conviction over the period of last 2 years. Sharma informed that the Higher Education Department had issued notice to the Vice Chancellor Vide No. HE/Recog/Adm/2009-80 dated 2-June-2011 under sub section (3) of section II of Kashmir and Jammu University Act 1969. The notice explained that Pro-Chancellor (Chief Minister) intends to cause enquiry to be made by four member high level committee. The committee includes Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Planning and Development), Commissioner Secretary Finance and Commissioner Secretary Higher Education. He expressed, "Though Chancellor and Pro Chancellor have fulfilled their responsibility to constitution of high level enquiry committee. But so far two period of two month has been passed but the enquiry committee has not started its work as yet." He urged the committee to finish the probe in the shortest possible time. He, however, threatened that if Committee would try to shield the culprits through unnecessary delay, agitation would be launched against its members. Sharma demanded from Committee to visit the campus and record statements of students and scholars as well to ascertain the acts of corruption and irregularity being committed by the University administration. He added that NSF will soon dispatch their memorandum to Governor House as well as members of the committee so as to facilitate the speedy disposal of the enquiry. Among those who were present in the press conference included Surjit Choudhary, Ravi Choudhary, Rahul Sharma, Manu Sharma, Manshu Kattal and Raj Kumar.
