KHC concerned over JK Bank Chairman’s Islamic Banking statement | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 18: A general body meeting of Kashmiri Hindu Conference (KHC) was organized under the chairmanship of M L Thusoo. The conference discussed the statement of Chairman J&K Bank Mustaq Ahmad that there was scope for Islamic banking. The meeting said that it is a setback to the basic principal of secular, democratic foundations of the state and the country. Setting up of state owned J&K bank on religious basis will create conflicting situation in the state and the country as well. It is to negate national and emotional integration of the masses. The PHE minister supporting it has over ruled the government as welll as the Chief Minister by giving no objection to the Islamic banking system in the state. P L Koul Budgami the convener expressed serious concern over the said move. Abolition of interest based banking after sixty five years is to teach people to unlearn what they have learned so far. There are number regional banks which will plead for converting them to their religious faiths. M L Thusoo said J&K Bank is a national level bank. Its branches are introduced outside the state. Islamic banking step will be suicidal. He further said the religion is a private affair and the state government has not adopted any religion. The globe is shrinking and Kashmiri leaders are limping to orthodox and old order he added. KL Ganjoo Sr. vice president said that some communal and hardliners with the bank are power behind this idea. He criticized the mainstream leaders to support this move. He further said that the J&K Bank is fast developing bank and communalizing its banking will tell upon its name and fame.
