Addressing one day convention here today organized by the youth wing of the PDP, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed regretted that instead of formulating a comprehensive youth policy, the present dispensation was brazenly trying to befool the younger generation by making false promises with them. He especially mentioned towards the much touted Sher-e-Kashmir Employment and Welfare Policy announced by the state government two years. “Where is that policy which was announced with much publicity?”, he asked, adding “the policy announced by the government was merely an eyewash and cruel joke with the unemployed youth of the state”. “Instead of announcing such half baked employment policy, the government should formulate a policy to ensure social security as well as employment”, he said and reminded that during the tenure of PDP-Congress regime special emphasized was laid on creating job opportunities and institutionalizing the recruitment process. “Thousands of teachers and Anganwari workers were appointed during PDP-Congress regime but not even a single case of backdoor and illegal appointment was pointed out because recruitments were made in total transparent manner”, he said, adding “the recruitment process was liberated from corruption and nepotism which established merit as the only criterion during that tenure. The former Chief Minister emphasized on the need of imposing conditions on the private sector to give priority to the locals in employment. He also demanded sustainable allowance for the employed youth of the State. Calling upon the workers to spread the message of the party, Sayeed said that establishing peace with dignity was the aim of PDP and party would continue to pursue this agenda aggressively and to make Jammu and Kashmir as show window for the whole country. Highlighting achievements of PDP-Congress regime, Mufti said that besides accelerating developmental activities, the previous government had restored dignity and honour of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “Not even a single person was in jail during PDP-Congress regime”, he reminded but regretted that present government has been using strong armed methods to suppress aspiration and wishes of people. “Hundreds of innocent youth are languishing in jails due to the oppressive policy of the present government”, he said and observed that alienation increasing among youth due to such policies. Terming prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir as fragile where people are gripped with a sense of insecurity, Sayed called upon the countrymen to respond to get people of this state out from this situation.
