Omar hits back Mufti on corruption issue, dares him to start movement from 'own house' | Defending Congress, says unfair to blame on Anna developments | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu: A day after former Chief Minister and PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed expressed serious concern over growing corruption in the state and underlined the need to have one Anna in each house to fight this, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah dared him to start the movement from his 'own house' instead of what he said inciting people. In what can be seen as brazen accusation, Omar said PDP was trying hard to disturb and vitiate peaceful atmosphere in the state but he would fail them in this 'intent'. "If Mufti Sayeed wishes to sit on hunger strike my government is ready to provide place at his choicest venue…….if he is so concerned about corruption he must start agitation from his own house and party instead of advising people to do….", Omar Abdullah challenged with sarcastic remark. Contending that corruption was cause of serious concern for all , the Chief Minister, on the other hand claimed that his government had taken steps which would help reduce the menace , counting on appointment of judges for SAC and amendments to SVC under consideration of his government. In a state which has been put at number two in corruption rating, the Chief Minister contended that steps like implementation of Panchayati Raj and Guarantee of Public service Rules Act would make 'huge difference' in the existing scenario of corrupt practices in the state. Hitting out at PDP, Omar said it had become their habit to jump to conclusions on issues without verifying the facts. "It has become a strategy to incite masses so that state is put on fire……but things have proved them wrong and it is for them to change", the Chief Minister said accusing in the same breath that they (PDP) won't because they don't want peace in state. "They are not happy that peace prevailed this year in state", he said asserting "while it is their continuous endeavour……my job is to fail them ins uch motives". Responding to a question on anti corruption movement the Chief Minister observed he believed is supreme in enacting the law to check it. " Parliament should be allowed to do this job as the MPs have been elected by half a billion people of the country". Omar also observed it was his individual opinion that Prime Minister should not be brought under the purview of Lok Pal bill; He can be but only after he demits his office Omar said quipping that in our own state the Chief Minister is under the purview of SAC while he holds the office. He said it was unfair to blame Congress for the developments that unfolded during the past two days related to movement led by Anna Hazare. |
