Jammuites should immolate Anna to fight against discrimination | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 18: Appreciating the role of Civil society of India and veteran Gandhian Anna Hazare who launched a nation-wide crusade against corruption and black money lying in foreign banks, the people of Jammu feel that the Jammuites should immolate Anna Hazare for fighting against the growing discrimination to which the region has been subjected by successive governments right from 1947. Mr Hazare and the civil society of India has left anexample for Jammuites to follow said Pawan Sharma a youth leader who has openly joined the movement launched by team Anna against corruption. ``If jammuites want to get rid of discrimination get their due share they have to immolate Anna Hazare and civil society of India to launch a movement for their rights'' he added. Sharma said had the leadership in Jammu also adopted the same path of struggle chosen by team Anna for weeding out corruption in the country the Central university would have been established in this region over a year back and the students would have not lost the two semesters. But unfortunately no one from Jammu was ready to take a lead to become the Anna Hazare and rid the people from growing discrimination to which the region has been subjected through the hands of successive governments right from 1947, he added. He, while justifying the CU demand said actually it was sanctioned for Jammu region but through its manipulation state Government managed to take it to Kashmir Valley leaving people of the region high and dry. But it was due to growing criticism and public resentment against the centre that it soon announced separate CU's for Jammu and Kashmir Valley. Though the decision was widely welcomed by people of Jammu but there hopes dashed to ground when Government delayed its establishment putting the student community to a lot of trouble, he added. Making a strong dig at the Jammu leadership he said that neither they became responsive to the demand by launching a strong movement for it nor they bothered to support those organizations who were protesting against the Government's delay in appointment of Vice Chancellor for over last one year. Had these leaders came openly in support of the demand and civil society of Jammu also remained solidly behind no power on earth could have dared to delay the functioning of CU in Jammu, shamra said. Supporting his Satish Poonchi another local leader and chairman J&K Peoples Front said that Jammu leadership has always back stabbed the people whenever any struggle for the cause was taken up. No body among he leaders bothered to protest against the curtailment of yatra period of Swami Amarnath Ji from two months to one and a half month this year. This too was an illogical decision which Government and Shri Amarnath Shrine Board implemented after getting it wetted through its henchmen in Board, he added. There was no ham in continuing the yatra for complete two months as it would have limited the rush from 20,000 pilgrims daily to 10,000 or so and there would have been hassle free movement of yatra on the twin tracks of Baba Amarnath, he said, adding the Government later relented before the public pressure and constituted a Sub Committee to decide on duration of yatra from next year. But had the Jammu leadership been sensitive to the issue the yatra duration would never have been curtailed by the Government. Likewise there should have not been any conflict on issuance of Dogra certificates to the people of Jammu region had the leadership from Jammu taken up the issue at right and appropriate time, Poonchi said. He alleged that on all these three issues the Jammuites have been given a raw deal by the Government which has always taken them for granted. So it is high time for Jammuites to immolate Anna and launch a crusade for their rights. Till the people of region fail to launch a protracted struggle for their cause the situation will not improve for them' The Jammu is not facing only these three issues but the delimitation of the Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies is a much bigger issue as the region despite having more area and population than Kashmir the region has less number of seats in Parliament and State Legislature. Besides the problems of West Pak and POJK refugees continue and these people are still unheard by the Government. So are the problems of unemployed and educated youth and these all problems have to be given a pragmatic thought by the Jammu leadership and take up them with Government forcefully. |
