Role of Congress Sarpanch under scanner for shielding culprits, initiating violence
On resistance, mother of victim attacked by sharp edged weapon

KISHTWAR, Aug 19 : In a bizarre incident, a mother of 9th class girl student was attacked with sharp edged weapon after she objected eve teasing of her daughter by some miscreants.
A mini bus conductor and driver identified as Shahid Hussain Baghwan (24 yrs) son of Ghulam Hussain Baghwan of Hullar, Kishtwar and Mansoor Ahmed son of Mohammad Iqbal (30 yrs) also resident of Hullar respectively were misbehaving with the student of 9th class in Bandrena area of Kishtwar District. When the mother of the eve teasing victim girl resisted the duo's move, the conductor of the matador bearing registration number JK014-2789 Shahid attacked the former victim with sharp edged weapon, causing her grave injuries in her arm.
The mother-daughter could be saved from the clutches of Conductor Shahid and driver Mansoor only after some people intervened.
According to the mother of the victim, while returning from the school, as soon as her minor daughter stepping out of the matador on Thursday evening at around 5 pm, the conductor Shahid pulled her hair and on this when the girl resisted, he used abusive language against her daughter.
She said that on hearing the screams of her daughter, she rushed towards the matador and after she came to know the exact reason of her daughter's shouts, she too reacted and in the meantime, the driver Mansoor handed over the sharp edge weapon to Shahid, with which he (Shahid) attacked her as a result of which the blood starts oozing out of her arm.
She said that due to intervention of some people, she and her daughter were saved from the notorious designs of Shahid and Mansoor. She said both fled from the spot after committing the crime.
The matter was also brought into the notice of Kishtwar police, who after conducting the medical examination of the injured lady, asked her to report next morning at police station Kishtwar.
Today in the morning, the news spread like a wildfire, as a result of which, the people of Bandrena blocked Kishtwar-Hullar road near Bandrena. The people held strong protest against the accused and demands stern action against them. In the meantime, some miscreants who happen to be the supporters of the accused start creating trouble at the site of the protest. The people of the Bandrena accused newly elected local Congress Sarpanch Noor Mohammad Ahanger for mobilizing the crowed in Hullar village some 3 kms away from the site of the protest. They alleged that Noor Mohammad Ahanger along with the well wishers of the accused Shahid Hussain Baghwan and Mansoor Ahmed covered the distance of 3 kms and reach the site of the protest as a result of which the atmosphere at the protest site get vitiated which result into stone pelting from both the sides.
During the stone pelting at least two people received head injuries, beside several other also got injured. After receiving the information about the stone pelting Kishtwar police headed by Dy SP Abrar Chowdhary rushed to the spot along with extra deployment of CRPF and police to control the unruly mob. It took more than 3 hours for police to ease out the situation.
Meanwhile, Kishtwar police have registered a FIR under 341, 3/25 at police station Kishtwar and also recovered the sharp edged weapon used by Shahid Hussain to attack the mother of the victim.
Besides lodging FIR against the two accused, the people of both Hullar as well as Bhanderna village approach the police for registration of counter FIRs against each other. Both the accused were still at large and Kishtwar police has launched manhunt to arrest the culprits.
Several political and non-political organizations condemned the eve teasing incident and subsequent attack on the mother of the victim.
Senior Congress leader Jugal Bhandari also condemned the incident and demanded stern action against the accused involved in this heinous crime. On asking the role of Congress Sarpanch in initiating the violence as was alleged, Bhandari said that he will inquire about the allegation from the local Congress Sarpanch. He said that he along with other party colleagues condemned the incident in one voice. President Woman wing SRCO Kishtwar Nusrat Farooq and State Secretary JKNPP Anil Parihar also condemned the incident of eve teasing and demanded stern action against both the accused. Nusrat Farooq also demanded for mobilizing the services of police in and around the educational institutes so that the incidents of eve teasing could be checked.
