Track-II dialogue between India-Pak on: Prof Soz
8/20/2011 9:38:18 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, Aug 20 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee President and MP, Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz Saturday revealed that Tack II dialogue between India and Pakistan was going on vigorously.
“Track II dialogue at the level of parliamentarians from both the countries is going on vigorously. Yesterday deliberation between the parliamentarians from both the countries concluded in New Delhi. The parliamentarians urged both India and Pakistan to adopt Confidence Building Measures (CBMs),” Prof Soz told party functionaries at a meeting to commemorate 67th birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi.
“We are hopeful that Track II will resolve issues between the two neighboring countries. Biggest beneficiaries of peace between India and Pakistan will be Kashmiris,” he added.
The Pradesh Congress President seconded with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s recent statement that MLAs were not in favor of empowering newly elected panches and sarpanches.
“But we will fight against it and want to empower panchyats fully. If panchyats are not strong democracy can’t be strong. Panchyats are the pillars of democracy,” he said.
Prof Soz explained the need to strengthen the Panchayati Raj system and Municipal institutions in J&K State by adopting the provision of 73rd and 74th Amendments in the constitution of India.
He said that Rajiv Gandhi’s life will continue to inspire the people in India, especially those who subscribe to the ideology of the Congress party. He said that it was unfortunate that Rajiv Gandhi didn’t live longer to give shape to many of his ideas. “But during his tenure as Prime Minister his emphasis to education of Science, technology, computers and his concern for devolution of authority at the district level, initiative to strengthen the panchayats and municipalities had borne fruit in today’s India. The Panchayati Raj system and municipalities have become strong throughout the Country,” he added.
