21 die in Poonch road mishap | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Aug 20 (KNS): Atleast 21 people died and 16 others were injured when a passenger vehicle in which they were traveling in skidded off the road and rolled down into a gorge in Poonch district of Jammu division on Saturday. Eyewitness told KNS that the vehicle on its way to Mandi skidded off the road and rolled down into the gorge in Madana area. Reports said people of nearby areas rushed to the spot to rescue the injured. Immediately after the mishap people protested against the civil administration alleging that authorities were responsible for such mishaps. Meanwhile, Transport Minister Qamar Ali Akhoon has ordered a probe into the accident and assured that action would be taken against those officials who will be found responsible for the accident. He announced amount of Rs 25 thousand in favour of next to kin of those who died in the accident. Meanwhile, Governor N N Vohra, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Union Health Minister, G N Azad, PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, Political Advisor to CM Devander Singh Rana and CPI-M State Secretary M Y Tarigami have expressed shock over the accident and offered their condolence with the bereaved families.
