Signature campaign starts to enforce demand for Degree college at Majalta | | | Early Times Report MAJALTA, August 20: Another twist to peaceful struggle for a Degree College at Majalta was afforded with the start of signature campaign by R S Pathania, President, Tehsil Development Committee, right from tehsil headquarters at Majalta. Majalta was neglected while degree colleges were announced throughout the state, and then an All-party conglomerate was constituted with R S Pathania, Youth Congress leader as its president. The committee plans to get signatures of as many as 50,000 people in respect of the demand of degree college at Majalta. After the conclusion of signature campaign, the memorandum accompanied with signatures of people shall be presented to Prime Minister, Chairperson U PA, Union minister for HRD, Chief Minister J & K state, Higher Education minister, MOS for Higher Education, and Member Parliament, Ch. Lal Singh. During the interim peaceful agitation, picketing, canvassing and other sorts of mean shall be employed in order to coerce the government regarding provision of a degree college at Majalta. The plea of TDC Majalta as well as common people of Majalta continues that Majalta is the most-deserving case throughout the entire state for setting up a degree college as this area supports 50,000-odd population of Majalta as well as people living in adjoining tehsils. Right on the 100 km stretch from Udhampur to Deoli (Billawar), there is no degree college for the pass-outs of higher secondary level. A proposed degree college at Majalta shall benefit pass-outs of as many as dozen-odd higher secondary schools of Majalta as well as bordering areas of four adjoining Tehsils - Jammu, Samba, Billawar and Ramnagar. Whereas octogenarian founder of the all-party conglomerate, Thakur Ranjit Singh, Kusum Jasrotia, Joint Secretary, Shankar Dass Office Secretary, Haji Mohd Din, coordinator/Secretary, Kulbir Singh, Sub. Major (Retd.), Raghunir Singh sarpanch, Romesh Gupta sarpanch, Rameshwar Sharma, Faleil Singh, Mulkh Raj, Charan dass and other executive members of the All-party committee remained present and shared their opinions on the subject.
