Awareness programme on “Food Adulteration” organised at GDC Udhampur

JAMMU, August 20: Next in the series of its innovative programs the Internal Quality Assurance Cell of Government Degree College(Boys) Udhampur in association with Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu jointly organised an awareness program on Food Adulteration in order to create awareness and food quality consciousness among the youth and teaching fraternity.
Rajan Kapoor, Assistant Controller, Drugs and Food Control Organization J&K, Udhampur Circle and Rakesh Gupta, Food Safety Officer were the resource persons. In his presentation, Kapoor threw light on various adulterants used in food items of daily use and its deleterious effect on human health.
The topic was explained by the resource person quoting various milk products and eatables that are adulterated by emphasizing the role of common man in preventing food adulteration.
“Consumers play a key role in preventing food adulteration and an aware citizen is the need of the hour,” he added.
He also described the tests of adulteration and adulterants that help in lowering the quality of many nutritive constituents present in food items.
Gupta made a live demonstration of the process of sample collection, sealing and labeling the samples collected before they are sent for investigation by the Department. Thereafter, a healthy and highly fruitful interactive session of 90 minutes was held in which students and staff very enthusiastically participated.
Professor Tara Nath, HOD Department of Dogri presided over the function. In his speech he congratulated the organizers for choosing the topic of utmost relevance.
“I hope the students would go out as trained and aware ambassadors of this message of being conscious on the issue of food adulteration and ever increasing use of various chemical toxicants in food items at the cost of health of a common man”, he said.
