ET staffer beaten for discharging professional duties | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 20: The Early Times (ET) Kishtwar staffer Asif Iqbal Naik was today beaten by some miscreants inside the district hospital, Kishtwar, where he had gone in connection with a news story. Iqbal was beaten by the goons in full public view. Though the incident took place close to the Kishtwar police station, the accused managed to make good their escape. He later sat on dharna in front of the police station, demanding the arrest of the accused and registration of a case against them. On the intervention of some police officers and social activists, lifted dharna after about half an hour. Police, however, registered an FIR and assured the victim that the guilty would be punished under law. He was attacked for reporting the yesterday's Banderna incident in which a sarpanch and some surrendered militants had allegedly attacked the people protesting an incident of eve-teasing. Two years back, ET staffer Reemu was also beaten by some youth for no fault of his at Gandhinagar but police had failed to take any action against the accused. Not only this, some miscreants had few months back stoned ET office on Samadhian Road here and smashed the glass panes but police miserably failed in this case too and could not round up the accused even as they stood identified. |
