Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 20: Though Congress High Command has down played the issue several times earlier but all is not well within the coalition partners in the state with Pradesh Congress leadership openly questioning the style of functioning of Omar Abdullah led coalition in the state.
The differences among the two coalition partners have increased to such a level that senior Party leaders as well junior functionaries of the Party at the Rajiv Gandhi's birth anniversary today made the NC leadership as well as Congress ministers in the coalition main target of their attack. The party leaders who had assembled to pay tributes to former Prime Minister chose the occasion to ire their resentment against the functioning of the coalition in the state. Some Party leaders while making NC, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and one of his advisors a direct target that PCC leadership is being totally being ignored by the Government in important meetings and functions.
Such a type of behavior and discriminative attitude of NC leadership towards the Congress leadership has generated a lot of resentment among Congmen in the state alleged this way the NC was trying to damage the Party politically in the state. The Congress leaders during the meeting while asking the Party workers to be vigilant also were not satisfied with their Party ministers and alleged that NC leadership is hobnobbing with them at Cost of Party. ``It is not important that Chief Minister will invite the Congress ministers or legislators in government or public functions and ignore the senior leaders of the Party including its president, vice presidents and general secretary''.
He said the NC provincial president is asked to be on one side of Chief Minister during the public functions but the senior leaders of Congress are ignored or they are not given such importance, though they have much public base in Jammu than the NC leaders. ``This is a serious issue and can jolt the relations between the two coalition partners'' he added.
While criticizing the functioning of Omar Abdullah Government he said the Chief Minister is dependent on politically immature coterie which is going to spoil the relationship between the two coalition partners. ``The CM in Delhi behaves in a sober way and shows total loyalty to Congress leadership but he changes his behavior totally in Jammu and this attitude of Omar Abdullah is being viewed seriously in the Party circles'', he added.
He said that recently one of the senior Party leaders and its vice president Mr Parrey also tendered his resignation from the Party post owing humiliation to which his party has been subjected as main reason for this drastic step. However it was only on the persuasion of PCC Chief, Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz that he withdrew his resignation.
He said that it was only due to efforts of Prof Soz that Congmen are maintaining their cool otherwise the situation has reached its crescendo so for as the attitude of NC leadership is concerned. It may be recalled that some Congress leaders in Jammu have openly advocated for change of guard giving Chief Minister's post to Congress.
The Congress leaders, while paying tributes to Rajiv Gandhi described the establishment of Panchayti Raj system in India as one of his greatest contribution. They however regretted the delay in implementation of Constitutional 73rd and 74th amendment in J&K to make the Panchayati Raj system a reality in the state.
While advocating for implementation of the two amendments of Indian Constitution in J&K, the Congress leaders said that Government should take immediate steps in this regard and urged the workers to gear up for the local bodies elections in the state.
