Militants in desperation: GoC
Fears rise in infiltration in coming months
8/21/2011 9:42:00 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, Aug 21 (KNS): The GoC 15 Corps, Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain Sunday said that militants were desperate to infiltrate and in coming months infiltration attempts might increase.
“We have killed 12 to 13 commanders of Lashker-e-Toiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad this year. The level of desperation to militants is high as there leadership has been wiped out. When desperation rises mistakes happen and we will exploit those mistakes of militants,” Gen Hasnain told reporters at wreath laying ceremony of Lieutenant Navdeep Singh at Badami Bagh Cant here.
“August September and October are high time for infiltration. There are chances of more infiltration bids in coming month,” he added.
The GoC said that LeT and Jaish were major militant groups in Kashmir. “Security forces are targeting leadership of both these terror outfits jointly,” he added.
To a question whether there was any intelligence input from Pakistan side in yesterday’s Gurez encounter, Gen Hasnain said, “There is no such communication between them and us. We have different resources for intelligence and there is no such cooperation from the other side.”
“Whenever you get success on certain routes on LoC against infiltration attempts, those routes get blocked. The area had not been touched so far in a big way this year and we were expecting infiltration on it,” he said.
The GoC said that Army has to remain alert all the times. “In yesterday’s operation there was coordinated and synchronized intelligence which got us success,” he added.
