JAMMU | DEC 1 The week long Civil Defence celebrations commenced with students rally here today at Gandhi Nagar. ADGP, J&K Police, P S Gill flagged off the rally of 1500 students drawn from the various local schools and colleges of the city. IGP Civil Defence, Navin Agarwal received the rally, which culminated at Gulshan Ground after passing through Bikram Chowk and University Road. Speaking on the occasion, Gill said that students can play a pivotal role in disseminating the message of Civil Defence for mutual peaceful co-existence; helping the poor and needy, facing the calamity conditions, fire fighting, maintaining law and discipline and helping the society in a broader sense. He further said that in a civilized democratic country like India, Civil Defence has to perform multidimensional activities including maintenance of aesthetics, health, hygiene, cleanliness and greenery for ecological balance in the areas. Later, Navin Agarwal also inaugurated a health club at Auxiliary Police Lines, Jammu. The club is equipped with latest gymnasium items. Prominent among others who also attended the function were DIG Armed, Gulzar Singh Salathia, SSP Jammu, Mukesh Singh, Corporator Bansi Lal Gupta, Chief Warden, Jugal Mahajan, and Dy. Chief Warden, Vinod Malhotra besides large number of wardens, volunteers, school teachers and prominent citizens.
