Fake excise deptt SI held with 45 kg charas | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 21: A Tata Safari-borne fake sub-inspector (SI) of excise department was today apprehended by police on the national highway at Jakheni in Udhampur along with 45 kilograms of charas. Acting on a tip-off, a police party headed by Udhampur police station SHO laid a naka on the national highway at Jakheni in the afternoon and intercepted a Tata Safari (DL4CKL/5786). Its checking led cops to the recovery of 45 kilograms of fine charas, police sources said. The charas and the vehicle were then seized by police. Sources said vehicle operator was also arrested and put behind the bars. The accused was identified as Sajjad Ahmad Bhat (27), son of Mohammad Yousaf Bhat of Humhama Khanpura in Budgam, Kashmir. Sources said a fake identity of excise SI was also recovered from him. He also possessed some other fake identity cards, the sources added. He was booked under NDPS Act. Sources said the naka to arrest him was laid under the supervision of SSP, Udhampur, Shakeel Beig. His sustained interrogation was on to know about his contacts in Kashmir and other parts of the country. Sources said the charas was being smuggled by him outside the state.
