| RRL celebrates foundation day | | |
JAMMU | DEC 1 Regional Research Laboratory (RRL) celebrated foundation day here today. The highlight of the function was the foundation day lecture entitled ‘Discovery, Preclicical & Clinical development of LL-334 (Dessoris) for the treatment of Psoriasis’ by Dr. Sudarshan K. Arora, president New Chemical Entity Research, Lupin Research Park, Pune. The other highlight of the programme was the directors report on the achievement of RRL of the year 2006 ad the contributions of Dr. R.A Mashelkar, Director General, CSIR, in shaping the presene CSIR, Dr. Qzi said that on the occasion I take the opportunity to put on record his great contribution to this institute who he patronized by means of advise, encouragement and putting resource at disposal. He remarked that his mde it possible that this laboratory has tripled in its extreanal budget which stands at around 6 crores for this year, out of which about 2 crores is “ Dollar Money” coming from foreign multinationals. He took pride that the infrastructure of the laboratory is at par and some times better than the best available in the country and some times better than that available in foreign countries. Dr. Qazi while introducing the chief guest said that Dr. Arora’s area of expertise if drug discovery & development, process chemistry and phytochemistry, which are relevant to the programmes of this institute. The major accomplishments of Dr Arora include establishments of state-of art- Lupin R&D centre in Pune. On the occasion Dr. Arora he was visited the laboratory after five years and today. I have seen a tremendous change, quality of research papers has gone high and the list of patents has grown a lot. Certain areas of research that have been introduced in these years have grown tremendously rather world class. This institute was established in 1941 as a low key research & production centre as Drug Research Laboratory of J&K state. The institute was visualized and founded by its founder director, the son of the soil Col. Sir R.N Chopra. The institute was taken over by Council of Scientific & Industrial Research on 1st of December 1957 and named Regional Research and developmental organization of the country.
