Justice Nargotra takes oath of office as Chairman | JK Accountability Commission | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Aug 21:
Governor N N Vohra, administered the oath of office to Justice (Retd) Yash Paul Nargotra as Chairperson and Justice (Retd) Hakim Imtiyaz Hussain as member of the Jammu and Kashmir Accountability Commission at a function held at Raj Bhavan, here today. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor congratulated Justice (Retd) Nargotra and Justice (Retd) Hakim Imtiyaz for having accepted to take over enormous responsibility of dealing with the tasks which await them. He wished them the successful tenures as the Chairperson and Member, respectively, of the Jammu and Kashmir Accountability Commission. The Governor observed that for the past sometime in the public and in the media there had been repeated references to the delay in the establishment of this Commission which, for certain reasons, could not materialize earlier. He added that the State Accountability Commission, State Human Rights Commission, State Information Commission and State Vigilance Commission are the watchdogs of democracy, governance and human rights and, therefore, they are of immense importance and support to the Government and the people of the State. He observed that corruption is a matter of concern for everyone in the country and he was confident that the political parties and their leaders in J&K were sensitive to what was required to be done for furthering accountability and good governance in the State. He emphasized the need for the urgent appointment of the second member of the Accountability Commission and filling up the vacancies in other Commissions. He hoped that a model State Vigilance Commission would also be set up very soon after undertaking the required amendments to the existing statute which was enacted in mid February this year. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Dy Chief Minister Tara Chand, Speaker Legislative Assembly Mohammad Akbar Lone, Deputy Chairman, Legislative Council Arvinder Singh and Justice F M Ibrahim Kalifullah, Acting Chief Justice of the State High Court, were among those present at the oath ceremony.
