JK Accountability Commission
8/21/2011 11:26:17 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, Aug 21:

Governor N N Vohra, administered the oath of office to Justice (Retd)
Yash Paul Nargotra as Chairperson and Justice (Retd) Hakim Imtiyaz
Hussain as member of the Jammu and Kashmir Accountability Commission
at a function held at Raj Bhavan, here today.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor congratulated Justice (Retd)
Nargotra and Justice (Retd) Hakim Imtiyaz for having accepted to take
over enormous responsibility of dealing with the tasks which await
them. He wished them the successful tenures as the Chairperson and
Member, respectively, of the Jammu and Kashmir Accountability
Commission.
The Governor observed that for the past sometime in the public and in
the media there had been repeated references to the delay in the
establishment of this Commission which, for certain reasons, could not
materialize earlier. He added that the State Accountability
Commission, State Human Rights Commission, State Information
Commission and State Vigilance Commission are the watchdogs of
democracy, governance and human rights and, therefore, they are of
immense importance and support to the Government and the people of the
State. He observed that corruption is a matter of concern for everyone
in the country and he was confident that the political parties and
their leaders in J&K were sensitive to what was required to be done
for furthering accountability and good governance in the State. He
emphasized the need for the urgent appointment of the second member of
the Accountability Commission and filling up the vacancies in other
Commissions. He hoped that a model State Vigilance Commission would
also be set up very soon after undertaking the required amendments to
the existing statute which was enacted in mid February this year.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Dy Chief Minister Tara Chand, Speaker
Legislative Assembly Mohammad Akbar Lone, Deputy Chairman, Legislative
Council Arvinder Singh and Justice F M Ibrahim Kalifullah, Acting
Chief Justice of the State High Court, were among those present at the
oath ceremony.
