CM seeks more funds from Centre for PMGSY | Niaz's threat to sit on dharna belittles govt 'requisition' | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 21 : The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah may well have given strong arguments in support of his demand for more funds under PMGSY from the visiting Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh in Srinagar today, but the status of works under this ambitious rural oriented program across the state reflects a scene which is far cry from what the government contends or claims. A loud concern folded in a warning was recently expressed no less important politician than a former minister and senior Congress leader Mohammad Sharief Niaz over what he alleged as completely neglected Bhaderwah constituency with regard to works under this scheme. In the meeting held today with Union Minister the state government led by CM , his two ministers and other senior functionaries must have showed 'greener side' of the picture in so far as the progress of works under PMGSY is concerned. The government has understandably underline the importance of road connectivity and communication in the state where most of the far flung areas are hilly with difficult terrains. Surprisingly, the scheme which is under implementation for years, the government has conveyed to the Union Minister that 1400 habitations across the state have yet to be linked up under this scheme so far as connectivity is concerned, and for this the government has sought Rs 700 cr assistance from the Centre. Why these hamlets have been left out and when would these be covered and whether the Centre would give this 'fat' additionality are the questions the answers for which shall come in time to come. But a larger issue remains that the NC led government has started facing voices of concern from its own ally Congress, as some leaders have now brazenly and boldly pointed out fingers towards the ruling dispensation. The leaders like Niaz and youth leader RS Pathania have not only been getting critical about coalition functioning but openly started giving threats that if the things 'won't get streamlined and on right track' they would intensify tone. Bhaderwah MLA Mohammad Sharif Niaz , in a statement few days back has even threatened that he would sit on dharna in front of civil secretariat Srinagar, if development schemes and roads links are not under taken for execution immediately in his constituency. In support of his statement Niaz has said that due to the slow speed work of the PMGSY roads and all other R&B roads and bridges in Bhadarwah have made people to suffer badly . The former minister has not made these allegations in vacuum. In support he has given numerous instances of development works executed years back but not completed till date for reaons that are not clear. Niaz is not the sole Congress leader to express concern on the scenario of development works, Youth leader from the same party has been seen frequently and boldly speaking in the similar tenor to express dissatisfaction over the state of affairs, particularly in Jammu constituencies which are facing total neglect be it a matter of road connectivity or the issue of degree colleges, in which some Jammu areas got a raw deal recently when government opening up of new colleges. |
