| Over Rs 22 lakh agriculture input scam | | Vigilance produces challan in misappropriation case | | JAMMU DEC-01 State Vigilance Organization produced challan against Mushtaq Ahmed Jan, then Agriculture Assistant (Inputs), Beerwah, Budgam in the court of Special Judge Anti Corruption Kashmir in Case FIR No. 77/1998 P/S VOK for misappropriation of Rs. over 22.55 lakh during the period 1995 – 1998. Giving details of the case a Vigilance spokesman said that SVO had received complaints alleging that the accused Mushtaq Ahmed Jan then posted as Agriculture Assistant (Inputs) has misappropriated large sum of Government money received by him on account of sale proceeds of Agriculture Inputs during the period 1995-1998. During the course of investigation it was revealed that the accused official was Incharge of his sub-division to arrange and supply of Agricultural Inputs to various outlets in the area. Scrutiny of the records revealed that the accused official had received sale proceeds of seeds, pesticides and other agricultural inputs costing Rs.50.51 lakh during the period 1995-1998. This amount was required to be deposited in the Government treasury. However, the official deposited only Rs.27.96 lakh and the balance of Rs.22.55 lakh were misappropriated by him by fabricating records and fake treasury receipts. The forgery has been established during the examination of the relevant documents by the Forensic expert. The evidence collected during the investigation has proved offences U/S 5(2) P.C Act r/w 409, 420, 468, 471-RPC against the accused official, the spokesman said. After completing the investigation, case was sent to Government for accord of sanction for prosecution and after receipt of the same the challan of the case was produced in the court of law for judicial determination.
