Troops told to plug border river routes | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, August 23 :- Following infiltration bid having been foiled in Kishenganga river after the troops killed 12 infiltrators in the Gurez sector on Saturday troops guarding the LOC have been directed to intensify patrolling on all the river routes. Troops have been asked to deploy additional companies of soldiers on the LOC including the three river and six rivulet routes which could be used by the Pakistan trained militants for crossing into Jammu and Kashmir. Official sources said that groups of militants were planning to cross into Jammu by crossing the river in Poonch that kisses the LOC. In addition to this rivulets and streams flowing close to the border could also be used by the militants in entering into Jammu and Kashmir. Sources said that additional floodlights were being installed on the border in order to monitor the movement of infiltrators. According to the sources, between 700 and 800 militants have been brought on the launching pads across Kupwara, Keran, Karnah, Tangdhar, Gurez,Poonch and Rajouri sectors for the purpose of pushing them into Jammu and Kashmir. Around 200 to 300 militants have been camping on the launching pads across Suchetgarh ,R.S.Pora, Akhnoor and that was the reason for intermittent border ceasefire violations by the Pakistani troops. The Indian troops have been asked to retaliate firmly whenever the Pakistani forces t ried to violate ceasefire. Sources said that various Pakistani agencies besides the ISI were desperate in infiltrating between 800 and 1000 militants, equipped with sophisticated weapons, into Jammu and Kashmir for the purpose of triggering violence on a large scale. These agencies feel upset over the marked drop in the incidents of militancy related activities and violence.
