EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 23:

The state government today invited global bids for consultancy services and turnkey execution of the 1,000-MW Pakal Dul hydro-electric power project on river Chenab.
Chenab Valley Power Projects Private Limited (CVPPPL) has invited sealed tenders through international competitive bidding (ICB) for providing consultancy services on pre-commencement works, design and turnkey execution of the 1000-MW Pakal Dul HEP project on river Chenab, in Kishtwar district of J&K.
In addition, CVPPPL has issued a separate ICB tender for turnkey execution of the Pakal Dul HEP project at Drangdhuran.
The scope of work of the turnkey contractor will include necessary additional investigation, planning, design and engineering, supply of equipment and materials, civil construction, design, manufacturing, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of hydro-mechanical and electro-mechanical machinery, leading to successful operation and performance of generating units, it said.
"After successful completion, testing and commissioning, the project is to be handed over to CVPPPL," it said, adding that the project has a contractual completion deadline of 73 months.
With a view to further accelerate the development of hydro potential in the state, the J&K government, in a significant move, had given approval for execution of three hydroelectric power projects.
The 600-MW Kiru project, 520-MW Kawar HEP and 1000-MW Pakal Dul HEP are to be implemented through a joint venture between Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC), National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) and Power Trading Corporation (PTC),
The state government formed a joint venture company of JKSPDC, NHPC and PTC under the name of Chenab Valley Power Projects Private Limited (CVPPL) and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard with the trio on December 21, 2010.
The company shall be managed by its board of directors (BoD), which shall be responsible for formulating the overall policies of the company in all matters and shall supervise the conduct of affairs and operations of the company.
The state of J&K has an estimated hydro-power generation potential of 20,000 MW, out of which about 16,000 MW has been identified so far, which includes about 10,215 MW on the Chenab River alone.
