BJP top brass gives it ‘a miss’ to J&K visits, Gadkari's visit to Leh today postponed | Anna movement: watch on prevailing situation a 'priority' | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 22: BJP national president Nitin Gadkari, who along with senior leaders of the party was scheduled to visit Leh tomorrow to address a public meeting has postponed the programme due to prevailing situation in national capital and other parts of the country catalysed by Anna movement. The party's Parliamentarian's study group on J&K whcih comprises senior most leaders of BJP which was scheduled to visit three hilly districts of Jammu region this week has also shelved the programme for now on account of same reason. The township of Leh was to witness perhaps for the first time presence of a leader of the stature of president of country's principle opposition party in tomorrow's public rally. Apparently, the preparations were going on for some days and the mood of local people , cadres was upbeat for this gala political event, only to be dashed due to the ongoing Anna Hazare movement against corruption across the country. Even though BJP is not directly involved in the ongoing agitation, as the main opposition party it is keeping close watch of the situation which has direct bearing on country's political scenario as well. Party sources said the top brass which includes many Parliamentarians has decided to give it a miss to J&K programmes as their presence in the national capital is much more important than these political programmes. While there were some senior leader of the party who were to accompany Gadkari to Leh tomorrow, the J&K study group which comprises the dignatories like Rajnath Singh, Ravi Shakar Prasad, Shah Nawaz Hussain, Maya Singh among others, cannot skip the Parliament proceedings which remain predomiant with the Anna movement these days, sources added. However, the party has decided to go ahead with the scheduled programme in Leh tomorrow with Public meeting having been converted now into a rally which will pass through main bazars of the Leh, focussing on anti corruption crusade as the main agenda ,the political demand of Ut status for Leh besides some burning local issues, sources said. "The programme has not been cancelled but postponed which is why the spirit of the cadres and supporters of BJP here in Leh has not dampened.....", said Satish Sharma, general secretary of the party, the incharge for this programme who is camping in Leh. Moreover, the rally stands organised for which people are upbeat and zealous, he added. The BJP study group on the other hand was to begin their three day visit, this time to Doda, Bahderwah and Kishtwar, the three far flung and backward areas of the state to see the ground realities in terms of situation and political aspirations of the people of these places. |
