India Against Corruption
8/24/2011 12:14:12 AM
Rustam
Jammu, Aug 22: Social activist Anna Hazare's crusade against corruption has not only mobilized the entire Indian nation and the Indians living abroad and electrified the Indian political scene and but it has also shown the Prime Minister and his government their rightful place. His crusade has engulfed every nook and corner of India with every concerned Indian contributing splendidly to the movement in his/her own style. The people's involvement in the movement is voluntary and unprecedented. Millions and millions of the exploited Indians have jumped on to the Anna's bandwagon. There is no coercion. They are spending from their own pocket to make the crusade against corruption a grand success. Protests across the country are peaceful and inspiring. Such is the nature of Anna's appeal.
The Indians are raising three main slogans - Bharat Mata Ki Jai, Bande Mataram and Inquilab Zindabad. They are carrying in their hands the national tri-colour. Everyone is remembering martyrs like Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Bhukteshwar Dutt, Subhas Chandra Bose and other martyrs. Significantly, nobody is talking about Mahatma Gandhi. Similarly, nobody is remembering Nehru. It's only Anna everywhere. The most striking aspect of the crusade against corruption launched by Anna is the nation's resolve to eradicate corrupt and corruption. Another striking aspect of the whole situation as it prevails today in the country is that there is not one Anna in the country, there are millions and millions of Annas in the country and abroad, all singing the same song: No corruption; no compromise; we want corruption-free India; we want people-friendly government; people are the masters and those who run the government are their servants. Yet another significant aspect of the whole movement is the Anna's unambiguous declaration that either enact the Jan Lokpal Bill or quit. Bill ko lana hoga ya jana hoga, Anna has roared amidst cries Bande Mataram, Bharat Mata Ki Jai, Inquilab Zindabad.
The nature of the people's participation in the crusade against corruption has rattled the Congress-led UPA Government in general and the Congress party in particular. The Prime Minister and his arrogant colleagues like the Finance Minister, the Home Minister, the Telecom Minister, the Information and Broadcasting Minister and so on are just not able to handle the situation. Instead of tackling the situation by accommodating the very genuine demand of Anna, they have added more fuel to the fire by their reckless actions and highly provocative statements. The people have developed hatred for them. They are trying their best to salvage the situation but with no result. The Government doesn't know what to do and how to break the impasse.
The Congress party, which has produced self-seekers, rank-opportunists and sycophants of rare variety; which has destroyed India politically, economically, socially and culturally; which has consistently bartered the national interests to keep the enemies of India in good humour; and which consists of those whose single-point agenda is to loot and plunder the poor taxpayers' money and lead a luxurious life at the cost of the poor Indians, has fielded its spokespersons like Abhishak Manu Singhvai, Rashid Alvi, Manish Tiwari, to mention only a few, to influence the nation's opinion, but they have utterly failed. On the contrary, their statements have further provoked the already rather agitated people. Tiwari's statement that Anna is corrupt to the core has been taken by the protesting Indians as an affront to the self-respect of Anna and the result has been that the crusade has gained more momentum.
The fact is that both the UPA Government and the Congress are at the receiving end. They are feeling helpless before the might of the Indian nation. Such is the mood of the nation. There is no doubt whatever that the UPA Government and Congress would lose their faces and Anna would score a spectacular victory for the nation to which he has dedicated himself. It would be no exaggeration to say that the Anna's crusade has brought the government and the Congress to the nation's knees and that the UPA Government would collapse like a house of cards collapses in case it sticks to its present position for some more days. The sooner the UPA Government collapses better for the nation. The UPA and the Congress have outlived their utility. Both stands totally discredited. They cannot befool the Indian nation any longer.
