BJP for equitable distribution of 1000 crore package among J&K youth | | | Early times repot Jammu, Aug 24 : Bhartiya Janata Party today demanded equitable distribution of package announced for the 'Kashmiri youth' by the Union Minister for Rural Development during his recent visit to Kashmir.
Calling for equitable distribution of the 1000 crore training cum placement programme for youth announced for the state by the Congress-led UPA government, BJP J&K Chief Spokesperson and National Executive Member Dr Jitendra Singh said, "the Centre’s assertion that this huge package is aimed at 'keeping Kashmiri youth away from separatism' tends to reinforce the already existing perceptions of discrimination among the youth of Jammu and Ladakh regions." Dr Singh in a statement issued here has warned the State and Central governments against sending out a signal that there is a premium on militancy or leanings for militancy or separatist activism.
"There ought to be no indication of priority in government jobs to youths who are either ex-militants or potential militants because the state has around seven lakh educated unemployed youth and most of them residing in areas outside the Kashmir valley," the BJP leader said.
He said there is already a simmering discontent among the youth in Jammu and Ladakh that all the appointments in recent years were marred by nepotism and discrimination, and the new package should not be allowed to add to this feeling.
Dr Singh further demanded clarification on the exact mode of utilisation of the programme’s first component worth Rs 235 crore launched by Mr Jairam Ramesh.
He, however, called for accountability of the present package as well as all other mega crore packages sanctioned by the Centre for the state in recent years in the name of militancy.
