Jora inspects Central Asian Museum at Leh | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT LEH, Aug 24: Minister for Tourism & Culture Jammu & Kashmir Nawang Rigzin Jora today re-opened and inspected Central Asian Museum at Tsas Soma, Chuterantak Leh. He was accompanied by Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Leh Rigzin Spalbar, Executive Councilors, Sonam Dorjey, Gurmet Dorjey, Deputy Commissioner, Leh Tsering Wangchuk, religious heads and many prominent citizens. Jora while speaking on the occasion said that adequate funds would be provided for completion of the museum. He said that he will release required amount of money for the landscaping around the museum. He said that ancient heritage buildings of Ladakh must be preserved and conserved and for that the J&K Tourism Deptt. is committed to give every possible help. The Minister said that it is very important to have this kind of museum in the centre of Leh, which will not only boost the tourism sector but the coming generation of Ladakh will know about the history and culture of their mother land in future. The Central Asian Museum Leh has been set up to commemorate important facet of Ladakh’s history, and to educate the public about it. Mainly sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Jammu & Kashmir State, the Museum is currently being built in the Tsas Soma Garden, on land where the caravans used to camp. Ladakhi king Senge Namgyal gave permission to some traders to built Leh’s first mosque on these grounds. Sonam Gytso Project Coordinator, Ladakh Old Town Initiative (LOTI) explained in detail about the museum and said the museum will be completed in July, 2012.
