DAC on PNDT Act recommends action against illegal ultra-sound clinics

JAMMU, Aug 24:

The meeting of the Divisional Advisory Committee (DAC) on Pre-Natal Diagnostic Technique (PNDT) Act was held under the chairmanship of Director Health Services Jammu Dr. Madhu Khullar here today.It is worth mentioning here that the divisional advisory committee on PNDT Act has been constituted by the Government for the better implementation of the Act by monitoring the functioning of various diagnostic centres and ultra sound clinics to curb illegal sex determination of the foetus. The members of the divisional Advisory Committee on PNDT Act are Dr. Rita Jitendra Academician, Retd Col K. S. Sambyal, Mr. Suram Chand Sharma, Deputy Director Information (PR), Jammu, Dr. Ashwani Jojra from Sahyog India, Dr. Anita Baru Sr. Gynaecologist, Dr. Subash Gupta Medical Gentist and Dr. Nirupam Gupta, Pediatrician. The Committee also discussed in detail the bottlenecks coming in the way of implementation of the PNDT Act aimed at curbing the menace of sex determination of the foetus which oftenly results into female foeticide. The committee unanimously favoured strict action against the illegal Ultra Sound clinics functioning without proper registration. The committee also decided that all the ultrasound clinics will be provided with a list of Divisional Advisory Committee members who can visit any clinic at any time for inspection and record shortfalls for presentation to the appropriate authority. Director Health Services has been designated as the appropriate authority for implementation of the PNDT Act.
The committee also decided to conduct on the spot inspection of the Ultra Sound Clinics and ensure that no Ultra Sound Clinic is allowed to operate without proper registration under the PNDT Act and the registration will be valid for 3 years only.
The committee also cleared 10 pending registration cases of the ultrasound clinics recommended by the District Advisory Committee on PNDT Act.
