Bhalla distributes 90 cheques among refugees

JAMMU, Aug 24: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla today distributed land deficiency compensation cheques worth Rs. 1.30 crore among 90 displaced families (refugees) of 1947 of Bhour Camp, Gole Gujral, Upper Gaddigarh, Lower Gaddigarh, Digiana, Rani Bagh, Nanak Nagar, Govindpura Chatha and Dalpatian Mohalla at a function held at Gandhi Nagar.
Custodian, Jammu Abdul Majid Wani, besides other senior officers of Evacuee Property and Revenue were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhalla said central and state governments are fully aware of hardships faced by the refugees and were keen to resolve all their issues in one go. He said that for this purpose, state has submitted a memorandum of Rs 1775 crore to the central government. He said a team of FFS, headed by Home Minister of India, has been set up for verifying the pending claims of refugees to ensure their proper rehabilitation.
He informed that Central Government led by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has already released Rs. 49 crore package for distribution of land deficiency compensation among the displaced families of 1947, 1965 and 1971 adding that the relief amounting to Rs. 1.50 lakh to each affected family is being disbursed in public darbars.
The Minister said Government has already compensated displaced persons for the land to the extent of 9000 kanals and so far it has distributed Rs. 27.68 crore as land deficiency compensation among the refugees..
Earlier, at Gandhi Nagar, Bhalla released a magazine namely ‘News Reporter’ of Bharat Scouts and Guides.
On the occasion, State Commissioner (S) I D Soni, Zonal Commissioner (S) M M Joshi, besides other members of JK Bharat Scouts and Guides were present. Later, Bhalla also visited Rajiv Colony established on the right bank of river Tawi and assessed the losses caused due to incessant rain fall on August 11, 12 and 13, 2011. He asked the Revenue Officers accompanying him to assess the losses of public and private property in the colonies so that the relief under NCRF could be disbursed among them under norms fixed by the Government.
