State BJP supports strong Lok Pal Bill | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Aug 25: In a joint statement issued by Bhartiya Janta Party state president Shamsher Singh Manhas and BJP state chief spokesperson & national executive member Jitendra Singh, the party has sought to dispel the misinformation in a section of press that the party’s response on the issue of Lok Pal bill is guarded and not fully supportive.
While Manhas said that the BJP’s campaign against corruption has been going on for the last one year and the party has clearly condemned the treatment meted out to Anna Hazare by the UPA government from the day he was arrested from his house on August 16, Jitendra Singh reiterated the BJP national leadership’s official position that the party is in favour of an effective strong Lok Pal bill that has the Prime Minister’s office in its ambit with exclusion of certain areas related to security etc.
Both Manhas and Singh have expressed concern about the health of Anna Hazare and appealed for an early end to his fast. They have also castigated the Congress led UPA for mishandling the situation and not being able to read the public mood.
The BJP line on the issue is very clear, said the two senior leaders and added that it is infact the Pradesh Congress and its coalition partner National Conference who have been for their own obvious reasons, directly or indirectly opposing a strong Lok Pal Bill as well as the Anna Hazare campaign.
It is because of BJP’s campaign against corruption and scams that persons like Raja and Kalmadi are behind the bars today, they said adding that the party crusade will continue until it succeeds in getting back the black money clandestinely deposited in foreign banks. In the State of Jammu and Kashmir also the BJP demands a strong “State Accountable Commission” and effective “State Vigilance Commission” they added.
