| Protest goes high-tech | | Now SMS campaign against land lease | |
Srinagar, Dec 2 After taking out protest rallies, staging dharnas, slogan shouting and observing hartals, opponents to granting land at tourist resort of Gulmarg on lease to locals/ outsiders have started a unique SMSing campaign in the state to mount pressure on the state government not to play with the fire by pushing forward its agenda. Various political leaders, bureaucrats, journalists not only in Kashmir but in Jammu and elsewhere have started receiving SMS campaigning against land lease plan of state government. The SMS opposes land lease even to the locals as it would mean sale of Kashmir .The text of the SMS says: “Say no to lease not even to locals, say no to sale of Kashmir. This is a conspiracy of PDP and its loyal and corrupt officers in the civil secretariat.” The message first originated from Kashmir valley is spreading fast as people in Kashmir valley have gradually started rallying against the decision of the state government to safeguard their own interests. People owing allegiance to different political parties and leaders cutting across party affiliations along with passionate govt servants have silently joined the campaign and are willingly adding fuel to the raging fire by siding with those behind the campaign and are also forwarding the message to their near and dear ones to generate mass movement against the move. It may be mentioned that after successfully running a hate campaign against the intent of the state government to lease land to local residents to set up joint ventures in partnership with those from outside the state opponents hit upon this novel idea to garner support among those sections of society who donot believe in protesting on roads but want to support the cause from a safe distance. The growing tele density of mobile users across the state also helped campaigners generate mass awareness against the state government . Ironically, the state government for the time being is adopting wait and watch policy and has already put on hold its decision to lease land. The matter was referred to the state cabinet by Tourism Minister Dilawar Mir for fresh review in view of the raging controversy. |
